Gilan looked up from a report he had been reading at the sound of globe beats on the ground around the cabin. He heard Blaze whiny a treating and knew it had to be Halt.
The door opened a few seconds later with a CREAK! and he saw Halt walk in, with a girl holding on to his waist. He glared at the girl. She looked a lot like the man his father was trying to catch. And then he realized that she looked like the girl from the wanted posters. He scrambled to his feet to get closet to the girl.
"Gilan." Halt said, smiling at the girl. "This is Emily Wilson, my new apprentice."
"Halt?" Gilan said after a moment, "Have you lost your bloody mind?? My dad is looking for her! She's an assassin!"
Halt glared at Gilan. "I don't give a flying fig about that! She's here to be my apprentice, and there's nothing Sir David can do about it."
Gilan huffed at Halt. Well, I am going to visit my dad. It's about time I visited home."
He went to his room, and packed for a month. When he was ready he found Emily sitting at the table nursing a glass if warm milk. Usually, Halt never made that unless Gilan was sick, or he was of coffee. But when he felt Emily's forehead, she was super hot, and so he had told her to sit down, while he made warm milk for her.
"My dad used to make warm milk for me when I was sick, too." Emily said.
"Why do you say 'used to.'" Halt asked.
"My parents are dead." She answered with tears in her eyes. "They were assassins, you know, and they had a lot of enemies. My mom was murdered, and my dad killed himself."
Halt patted her shoulder. She looked tired, so he made her stand up and walked her to Gilan' s room. 'He' s not gonna be here, why should he care?' Halt thought as he tucked the sleepy girl into bed. He felt her forehead one last time: she still was burning up.
When she had fallen asleep, Halt snook out of the room, closing the door behind him. Gilan was gone, and finally, there was only quiet in the little cabin.

In Emily's dream, she was visiting her past, a very touchy subject that few people knew, and even less dared to try and talk to her about.
She was two, riding on the shoulders of her dad, pretending that she was flying. That was three days before her mother was murdered. She was with her mom the minute she died. Or, at least in the dream is was. Her mother's funeral. Her dad being in such a rage that he cut Slade, taking out his eye. The constant beatings and touches, and then, her dad's suicide.
Then she was on the run with Slade.
"Come on, Emily!" Slade said, pulling her along. "We can't let them get us!"
The many occasions where Sir David had trapped them in a small town. Running away from Slade when she found out who he was working for.
Meeting Halt, the greybearded Ranger who took her under his wing almost immediately.
And after that, her dream settled down.
For a friend who helped me out. Hope this answers the questions you had! :D
